Assistant Manager, Soundtrack and Music Catalog Administration

The primary purpose of this position is to (a.) coordinate all aspects of soundtracks released on Sony Pictures’ in-house record label, Madison Gate Records, and catalog soundtracks released on third-party labels, and (b.) maintain and actively promote the use of SPE’s music library. The ideal candidate is a team player with music industry experience and passion for music and entertainment. The Assistant Manager must be motivated, a self-starter with keen attention to detail, exceptional organization skills and ability to juggle multiple assignments.  Also must be tech savvy with knowledge of website management, social media and digital platforms, with an interest in new and emerging technology.  Creative with content creation and solid copyrighting skills.  A basic understanding of how music is created and distributed.

Core Responsibilities:

1) Coordinate all aspects of soundtracks, singles and playlists released on Sony Pictures’ in-house record label, Madison Gate Records, and catalog soundtracks released on third-party labels: (60%)

  • Assemble album metadata, credits and label copy
  • Oversee soundtrack packaging design and layout
  • Secure studio and filmmaker approvals as needed
  • Coordinate audio mastering and delivery
  • Ensure timely album submission and delivery to our distribution partners
  • Develop and execute album release, marketing and publicity plans
  • Manage Madison Gate Records’ website and social media handles
  • Assist with soundtrack rights research and analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of soundtrack distribution agreements and clearance of third-party songs
  • Enter soundtrack rights information into Sony Pictures’ rights tracking software
  • Maintain master soundtrack release calendar

2) Maintain and promote the use of SPE’s music library in coordination with music catalog licensing manager: (40%)

  • Archive and catalog SPE-owned and administered music, adding music descriptors and associated metadata
  • Develop marketing and promotion plans to create awareness for and use of SPE’s music library
  • Coordinate with catalog licensing manager to pitch music for synchronization licensing opportunities
  • Service audio assets to SPE departments as needed

Education, Experience & Skills:

  • BA degree preferred
  • At least 2-3 years of related music industry experience (record label experience is a plus) with a basic understanding of how music is created and distributed
  • Must be motivated, self-starter, strong attention to detail, ability to multitask and prioritize
  • Tech savvy with knowledge of website management/HTML, social media and digital platforms. Interest in new and emerging technology
  • Proficiency with Excel (multi-level formatting and ability to create and apply formulas) and basic familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
