This Spring Trainee position is from January through May 26th and all candidates must be able to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:

The Business Intelligence (BI) team is part of the IT organization at SPE and provides BI Engineering and reporting services to the major lines of business spanning productions, marketing, distribution, and finance. Across these groups, the BI team members work with result-oriented business stakeholders on managing and processing internal and Industry data sets to generate analytical insights supporting SPE objectives.  This involves creation of data onboarding, ETL pipelines, operational data marts, analytical warehouses, reporting, data access needs and data science infrastructure. The team performs assessments and proof of concepts of new BI technologies, frameworks, and platforms which prove beneficial to the organization and helps business teams uncover insights and unlock the true potential of their data. 

Team members get an opportunity to work with other internal engineering teams, external vendors and other Sony Group companies on broader data and analytics initiatives.  We are looking for dynamic engineering professionals who can learn, adapt and evolve in this fast-paced environment and be part of the SPEBI team.   Invest in training.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Business Intelligence & Data Analysis Trainee responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Participate in daily sprint meetings
  • Create and refine stories to provide necessary updates and refinements
  • Create artifacts and documentation related to project delivery
  • Provide status updates in tracking tools, and on business and IT stand-ups
  • Work with other team members for environment setups, troubleshoot issues, and other configurations
  • Research on solutions approaches under the guidance of an architect/lead
  • Work on assigned ETL and database development tasks and deliverables
  • Perform unit testing, functional testing, QA/QC activities, and feedback on code that is delivered
  • Proactively identify areas of improvement and articulate the benefits of implementing them

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be able to work 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday
  • Bachelor's degree required, Engineering or Comp Science degree preferred but not required
  • Have some experience in a team environment to deliver projects
  • Experience with programming/scripting languages e.g., Python, Node.js, etc.
  • Foundational understanding of Database (SQL, DDL, etc.), Agile, DevOps (CI/CD, TDD) concepts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and operate independently to arrive at an outcome. Having the curiosity to explore solutions
  • Data exploration and data story-telling e.g. (Tableau, PowerBI, etc) experience
  • Ability to profile the data and map the results to business objectives
  • Up-to-date knowledge of technologies in Business Intelligence area

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1 year work experience in a software development or data engineering role (Intern, contract, etc.)
  • Experience in any data tool
  • Experience with Cloud platforms and services
  • Curiosity & Digital Dexterity
