The theatrical legal department of Sony Pictures Entertainment is seeking a production attorney at the "Counsel" level to support various divisions(including Columbia, TriStar and 3000 Pictures).We are seeking a production attorney with direct on-point motion picture experience to join our group providing legal support to the Business Affairsand Production departments during all phases of development, production and post-production of theatrical motion pictures.

Responsibilities:

  • Review chain of title documents and identifyand take action to correctany rights issues 

  • Draft and negotiate agreements  (in concert with and under the direction of senior attorneys and Business Affairs executives) relating to motion picture development and production which include contracts for rights, writers, directors, producers, actors, key crew, visual effects, leases, location agreements, license agreements as well as other production agreements

  • Work with the Business Affairs executivesand production executives of each division

  • Handle legal issues that arise during motion picture production

Requirements:

  • Twoto five years of legal theatrical development and production experience

  • Knowledge of contract law and legal issues specific to entertainment law (production and intellectual property issues)

  • Excellent communication and drafting skills

  • Ability to review agreements and to trouble-spot legal issues 

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, take responsibility for projects, learn and understand policies and procedures and exercise sound judgment based on experience

  • Member in good standing of California Bar

The anticipated base salary for this position is $140,000-$170,000. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
