REQ ID JR113295 Apply View Saved JobsThe Executive Director, Design serves as the creative leader for design across Sony Pictures Television Studios, shaping the visual expression of the studio, its series, and its franchises. Reporting to the SVP, Creative Marketing, this role is responsible for establishing a high creative standard across all design work while actively contributing as a hands-on designer and creative problem solver.
The Executive Director will lead the Design team in developing compelling visual storytelling across sales materials, marketing campaigns, social content, franchise initiatives, executive presentations, events, and studio communications. This individual will bring a strong design point of view, exceptional creative taste, and a passion for elevating ideas beyond the expected.
The ideal candidate is both a leader and maker: someone who can inspire a team, provide clear creative direction, advocate for great design, and personally execute high-profile projects when needed. They bring a strong foundation in graphic design and visual storytelling, with an appreciation for how design extends across motion, social, video, presentations, and emerging media formats.
Responsibilities:
Creative Leadership
- Define and elevate the visual standards of Sony Pictures Television Studios across all design touchpoints.
- Establish a clear design vision that supports the studio’s creative marketing, franchise, social, and sales objectives.
- Champion excellence in typography, composition, visual storytelling, presentation design, branding, and motion design.
- Provide thoughtful and decisive creative feedback that strengthens work and pushes projects beyond initial expectations.
- Serve as the design voice in cross-functional discussions, advocating for creative quality and brand consistency.
- Partner closely with Creative Marketing, Social Creative, Marketing Strategy, Franchise Management, and Sales Marketing leadership to develop impactful visual solutions.
- Partner with Social Creative and Creative Marketing teams to ensure design systems and visual identities translate effectively across static, motion, social, and video applications.
Design Execution
- Lead and personally execute high-profile design projects from concept through final delivery.
- Design and oversee presentations, sales materials, franchise decks, social creative, key visuals, event branding, executive communications, and marketing assets.
- Translate creative strategy and storytelling objectives into visually compelling experiences.
- Develop multiple creative approaches and design systems that solve business challenges while elevating creative quality.
- Collaborate on motion and video-driven creative initiatives, ensuring design principles are applied consistently across trailers, social content, presentations, franchise storytelling, and emerging content formats.
- Maintain a high level of hands-on proficiency across design platforms and emerging creative technologies.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Design team, fostering a culture of creativity, accountability, collaboration, and continuous growth.
- Provide clear creative direction and establish expectations for quality, execution, and professional development.
- Conduct regular reviews and coaching sessions to elevate both creative and strategic thinking.
- Build a culture where designers are encouraged to contribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and grow their creative confidence.
- Help identify future talent needs and support freelance and agency partnerships as necessary.
Operational Excellence
- Partner with Operations leadership to ensure efficient workflows, prioritization, and resource allocation across the Design team.
- Balance creative ambition with business priorities, timelines, and available resources.
- Ensure design deliverables are executed with consistency, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Stay informed on emerging trends, technologies, tools, and AI applications relevant to design and creative development.
Requirements:
- 10+ years of experience in graphic design, creative direction, brand design, entertainment marketing, or related creative fields.
- Proven experience leading designers and creative teams in a studio, agency, entertainment, streaming, or media environment.
- Exceptional portfolio demonstrating excellence in presentation design, brand systems, visual storytelling, campaign creative, and marketing communications.
- Strong command of typography, layout, color theory, visual hierarchy, and design systems.
- Ability to both direct and execute creative work at a high level.
- Experience presenting creative work and defending design decisions with executive stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and elevate creative talent.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, PowerPoint, Keynote, and emerging design technologies.
- Passion for television, storytelling, and entertainment marketing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in A/V marketing, broadcast, streaming, or social-first content.
- Working knowledge of motion design principles, title design, and post-production workflows.
- Familiarity with After Effects, motion graphics, and video-centric creative development is a plus.
- Ability to develop visual systems that extend seamlessly across static and motion applications.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $150K to $200K. This role may also qualify for annual incentive and/or comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
