Our internship program is designed for students currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, as well as individuals seeking to deepen their education through immersive, professional experience in the entertainment industry.

The Investigative Services Legal Technology team supports Sony Pictures legal, investigative, and related business functions through eDiscovery, digital forensics, data recovery, legal hold management, information governance and digital evidence preservation. We partner with Information Security, Physical Security, IT Infrastructure, Litigation, People and Organization and Network Engineering teams to develop and maintain the tools and processes that enable defensible preservation, collection, processing, analysis, and production of data from Microsoft 365, computers, mobile devices, cloud services, and other enterprise business systems.

Requirements

  • Support the operation, maintenance, and modernization of the Investigative Services Legal Technology Lab environment, including hardware, software, infrastructure, and forensic tools.
  • Assist with supervised digital forensics, eDiscovery, data recovery, and evidence preservation activities across computers, mobile devices, cloud platforms, and enterprise systems.
  • Help improve team efficiency through automation, workflow enhancements, reporting, documentation, and internal system updates.
  • Support lab readiness through asset tracking and organization, device preparation, software configuration, monitoring, patching and technology asset lifecycle activities.
  • Participate in research, testing and proof of concept work involving emerging forensic, investigative, artificial intelligence and legal technology tools.
  • Provide technical support to lab users and assist with troubleshooting hardware, software, networking and infrastructure issues.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Security, Digital Forensics, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Strong interest in Digital Forensics, eDiscovery, Cybersecurity, Investigations, or Data Governance.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information responsibly.
  • Strong analytical skills with an attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of various operating systems, file systems, storage technologies and PC hardware.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP).
  • Familiarity with network administration such as Active Directory.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on tasks requiring immediate attention.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Personal projects involving Networking hardware, Digital Forensics, Information Security, Investigations or Data Analytics.
  • Experience working with structured data, reporting tools, PowerShell, SQL, Python, or automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with log analysis, system monitoring, scripting, or security-related tooling. Familiarity with virtualization technologies and hypervisors.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 technologies including Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Purview.
  • Familiarity with forensic tools such as FTK Imager, Magnet AXIOM, EnCase, Autopsy, Cellebrite, or similar technologies.
  • Experience operating a personal lab environment using technologies such as VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, Docker, Raspberry Pi, or similar platforms.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $22/hour. This role may also qualify for comprehensive benefits. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
