Overview
As Manager, Global Finance Operations (GFO) – Indirect tax, you will play a critical role in supporting the indirect tax function: indirect tax advisory, indirect tax compliance and contributing to global process improvement initiatives. This role combines operational responsibility for EMEA indirect tax submissions with global support duties focused on process improvement.
You will support the definition and execution of technology, process and resourcing strategies for indirect tax compliance across SPE, including the outsource model with our partner, Capgemini, providing oversight of global VAT compliance activities. You will target key lines of business and entities where the indirect tax team will be responsible for territory VAT returns and associated audit support.
Core Responsibilities:
Operational Management
- Coordinate the preparation, review, and timely filing of VAT returns and related indirect tax documentation across relevant jurisdictions.
- Support the implementation of process improvements and technology enhancements related to indirect tax compliance.
- Monitor compliance activities to ensure alignment with global tax regulations and internal controls.
- Assist communications with and disclosures to tax authorities
- Assist in developing standard operating procedures and documentation for recurring processes.
- Act as a super user for one or more -indirect tax systems used including and not limited to Thomson Reuters and Pagero,
Audit Support & Governance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for indirect tax audits in assigned territories.
- Work with external advisors and internal stakeholders to gather required documentation and respond to inquiries.
- Track audit timelines and deliverables, ensuring accurate and timely resolution.
- Vendor and Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with Capgemini and other outsourced service providers to ensure service levels and deliverables are met.
- Escalate process issues or service gaps to senior leadership, contributing to resolution efforts.
- Collaborate with Global Tax Office and internal business partners to resolve routine indirect tax issues.
Process Improvement & Reporting
- Identify areas to streamline VAT compliance processes and reduce manual intervention.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of tax technology tools.
- Assist in preparing internal reports, compliance dashboards, and supporting data for internal use.Ensure the team follows established processes and meets internal and external reporting deadlines .
- Support the indirect tax training and development needs of the team, the wider SPE Finance Organisation and CapGemini
Experience and Education:
- Certification/Licenses: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CTA, VAT certification, or similar qualification preferred.
- Typically 5+ years of experience in indirect tax compliance, preferably in a multinational or shared services environment.
- Experience working with outsourced providers and tax advisors.
- Familiarity with international VAT rules.
- Proficient in working in Finance and Accounting projects/programs
- Experience in working under different project management methodologies e.g., Waterfall vs Agile (Scrum/Kanban).
Knowledge & Skills
- Solid understanding of indirect tax requirements (VAT, GST).
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (e.g., SAP-); experience with tax engines a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional, multicultural environment.
